CPA Firm Management Reviews

CPA Firm Management Reviews typically span two days and include advanced engagement preparation. In advance of the meeting, a detailed firm profile template is completed and each partner will be asked to complete a confidential questionnaire. Engagements typically begin with the firm’s managing partner and the discussion of areas of concern often occur over dinner. In the days following, individual interviews with partners and other key personnel are conducted. On the second day, the meeting is concluded with an exit conference and a bullet point report is presented to the partner group.

CPA Firm Management Review engagements typically concentrate on and include:

  • partner accountability
  • billing procedures and realization
  • benchmarking
  • billing rates
  • partnership agreements
  • profit allocations
  • succession planning
  • strategic planning
  • marketing and firm growth initiatives
  • retreat facilitation

Follow-up is scheduled on an as needed basis.

DMJ’s Managing Partner, Mike Gillis CPA/PFS, conducts CPA Firm Management Review engagements. Managing Partner since 1998, Mike has conducted more than ten firm management reviews across the country through DMJ’s association with CPAmerica International.

Tax Practice Review and Risk Management

Tax Practice Reviews and Risk Management Engagements are not technical reviews, but process and procedural in nature.

The review of the tax practice procedures include:

  • technology
  • engagement letters
  • review procedures
  • work flow

A key focus is also on risk management. Typically a two-day engagement, the review includes advance preparation and materials submitted.

Mike Gillis CPA/PFS has worked on more than ten engagements as an expert witness for law firms defending CPA firms on tax malpractice claims. His experience includes serving as a consulting expert, mediation expert, depositions, and trial testimony.
