June 8: Mipso
Chapel Hill-based band, Mipso will be the first to take the stage on July 8th. This young indie folk band coalesced at UNC-Chapel Hill and quickly became a campus favorite. Not long after, they began selling out shows at Cat’s Cradle and appearing throughout the Triangle and beyond. Their 2015 album Old Time Reverie reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Chart, and the Guardian newspaper called it one of the best records of the year.

August 12: Dark Water Rising
August 12th will welcome Dark Water Rising to the stage. Dark WaterRising explores various themes of life-love, heartbreak, sacrifice, celebration, despair, pain-all while expressing and evoking sincere emotion on issues affecting their communities. The band attributes their style of playing and singing to a combination of influences, which range from attending Sunday morning worship services to absorbing the diverse styles and tones of artists like Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, the Bee Gees, and Lynard Skynard.

October 14: Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba
Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba will round out the series on October 14th. Combining passionate originality and fierce authenticity, Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba take West African dance music into new territory-literally, the North Carolina Piedmont. That’s where Cissokho, a griot born to a family of professional musicians in Senegal, makes his transplanted home. “Universal Love’ is a rough translation of “Kaira Ba” as the band effortlessly illuminates stories of West Africa in a globalizing world, communicating these stories to audiences in a live concert setting.
