GREENSBORO, NC - The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the world’s leading provider of anti-fraud training and education, is pleased to award Laurie D. Williams of Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co. LLP (DMJ) the globally-preferred Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential. Williams is Manager of DMJ’s Burlington office and performs many of the firm’s audits, reviews, and other attestation engagements.

In order to become a CFE, an anti-fraud professional must meet a stringent set of criteria and pass a rigorous exam administered by the ACFE. CFEs have the ability to: examine data and records to detect and trace fraudulent transactions; interview suspects to obtain information and confessions; write investigation reports, advise clients as to their findings and testify at trial; be well-versed in the law as it relates to fraud and fraud investigations; and understand the underlying factors that motivate individuals to commit fraud.

Williams attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she earned her B.S. in Business Administration and went on to earn her Certificate of Study in Accounting from Guilford College. Williams holds a three-year position on the board of directors of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA) and previously served two consecutive terms as chair of the NCACPA’s Accounting & Attestation Committee. In addition to her involvement in NCACPA, she is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
