
DMJ Delegates Attend CPAmerica International’s 2009 Conference and Retreat

GREENSBORO, NC-Mike Gillis, CPA, Managing Partner,with the public accounting firm of Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co., LLP (DMJ) was a delegate to the recent Leading Partners Retreat of CPAmerica International, an exclusive association of major accounting firms of which DMJ is a member. Janet Farrell, CPA, Firm Administrator with DMJ, also attended the conference as a delegate with the Firm Administration Roundtable. In addition to being members of the delegation, both Gillis and Farrell addressed conference attendees with presentations. Gillis’ presentation was titled "Partner Compensation Buyout and Retirement" and Farrell participated in a panel discussion highlighting the role of the firm administrator and opportunities for member sharing.
Held in Orlando, FL, the Leading Partners Retreat and Firm Administration Roundtable brought together CPAs and firm administrators from across the United States to discuss leadership in turbulent times and other topics of interest to the future of CPA firms. Discussion among the groups ranged from accountability, acquisition of CPA practices; marketing and partner compensation and retirement to the role and career path of firm administrators, staff evaluation and goal setting, positioning for the recovery, mentoring, and profitability signs.
Among featured speakers at the conference were New York Times bestselling author Tom Connellan; Ernie Almonte, chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Alan Koltin, president and CEO of PDI Global; and Douglas H. Thompson, Jr., CPAmerica CEO.
