DMJ Celebrates 10 Years & Raises $10,075 for Special Olympics North Carolina!
March 1, 2010
GREENSBORO, NC - The Greensboro accounting firm of Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co., LLP (DMJ) celebrated ten years as annual participants in the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department’s Annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics North Carolina. The 2010 event was held Saturday, February 27 at Wet N’ Wild Emerald Pointe. DMJ honored its decade long involvement with an ambitious fundraising total announced Saturday of $10,025.
Since the event’s creation in Guilford County, DMJ has historically been awarded “Most Money Earned” and has raised thousands of dollars for Special Olympics North Carolina with each year of participation. On Saturday afternoon, dozens of warm souls took a giant leap into the thirty-two degree pool waters that warmed the hearts of the Special Olympics athletes and supporters.
DMJ firm members have volunteered as coaches and mentors with the organization including DMJ Partner Dana Beeson who has coached athletes in cycling for over fifteen years. DMJ’s Managing Partner, Mike Gillis, was the firm’s first “plunger” in 2000 and has been followed by many colleagues who have risen to the challenge despite a decade of rain, snow, sleet, and freezing temperatures! DMJ is immensely grateful to the generosity of the firm clients and friends who have been tremendous supporters of the Polar Plunge and proud to have a role in providing Special Olympians the resources needed to experience the joy in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families and the community.
