Laurie Williams was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but grew up in North Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she earned her B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Laurie went on to obtain a Certificate of Study in Accounting from Guilford College. While attending college, Laurie worked in various areas of accounting, obtaining a strong background in bookkeeping and financial reporting. She joined DMJ in 1996, performing many of DMJ’s audits, reviews, and other attestation engagements.
Laurie is dedicated to involvement in professional organizations including the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA), where she currently holds a three-year position on the board of directors and previously served two consecutive terms as Chair of the Accounting and Attestation Committee. She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Laurie is a CPA Ambassador for the AICPA and an alumnae of Leadership North Carolina. In 2008, Laurie was honored by the Triad Business Journal as a 40 Leader Under 40 winner. The award recognizes professionals who have proven to be outstanding people within their business and within the community.
In addition to being licensed as a Certified Public Accountant, Laurie also holds the globally-preferred Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential, demonstrating knowledge in critical areas in the fight against fraud.
Laurie is also active in community affairs, including current or past involvement with the Alamance Rotary Club, Northwoods Homeowners Association and Greenhill Center for North Carolina Art. Laurie has written various articles and made submissions to the NCACPA’s quarterly magazine, Interim Report. She has given various speeches and presentations to college and professional groups.
Laurie enjoys spending time with her husband, children and immediate family. Her interests include boating, scuba diving, and other outdoor activities.
