Charlie Welborn was born and raised in Yadkinville, North Carolina. He attended Guilford College in Greensboro where he attained a Bachelor of Administrative Science in Accounting, and upon graduation, joined Northwestern Financial Corporation as an internal auditor. As a member of the internal audit staff, he specialized in fraud and investigation work.
In 1983, Charlie joined the staff of Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co., LLP in Greensboro, transferring to the Sanford office in 1990. He was named partner in 1991, focusing his work on audits and financial accounting in addition to individual and corporate income taxes.
A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, Charlie also serves on the boards of directors of the Sanford Rotary Club Foundation, the local Salvation Army, the Lee County Community Foundation, Sanford Branch of Wachovia Bank and Grace Christian School. Other professional and community service positions include membership in the Sanford Rotary Club and the Lee County Committee of 100, of which he is a founding member.
Charlie and his wife, Debbie, live in Sanford with their sons, Matthew, Micah and Caleb, and daughter, Hannah. The Welborns are members of Grace Chapel Christian Church.
