Bert Stokes is a Greensboro native. After attending Grimsley Senior High School, he attained a B.S. Degree in Business Administration/Finance from Western Carolina University. Also included in his educational background are graduate studies in accounting at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and completion of the National Tax Education Program of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) at the University of Illinois.
After gaining experience in personnel management with a construction company and learning about real estate as a practicing broker, Bert started with Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co., LLP in 1979 and became a partner with the firm in 1984. Bert is a general services partner in the Greensboro office. His extensive knowledge includes construction accounting and all areas of corporate and individual taxes. He is also the partner in charge of business valuation services.
Bert is a member of several professional organizations. These include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and its Tax Division, and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and its Piedmont Chapter. Bert has been awarded the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) designation. This designation shows that Bert has a grasp of the body of knowledge in the business valuation discipline and represents the premier strategic business advisor. Bert is also a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers, Inc.
Bert is very active in the Christian community where he has served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher at his church. He is a past member of the Board of Directors and former treasurer of Youth for Christ, past president of Wesleyan Christian Academy PTO, and is currently president for the Vance H. Havner Scholarship Fund.
In his spare time, Bert enjoys spending time with his wife, Bridgette, and their children, Aaron, Drew, and Larkin.
